Plastic Cards - Magnetic Stripe

A magnetic stripe is a black or brown band on the back of our credit card size plastic card that is capable of storing any kind of data. The magnetic stripe is read by swiping the card through a reading head which captures and decodes the data. Magstripes allow for fast and easy access to relevant information about your customers' behavior like their shopping frequency, the amount of money they spend each time, or their rewards points for a special discount.

Cards with magstripes are designed to offer optimum versatility for all kinds of applications like employee time clocks, gift cards with reloadable balances, membership cards with extra benefits for their members, and loyalty cards with discounts and rewards for frequent use.

Magnetic Stripe Example

This magnetic band can be high coercivity or low coercivity. The use of either of these two coersivities depends on the need of the customer and their POS Systems' requirements.

High Coercivity Magnetic Stripe

The advantage of high coercivity is that it's more difficult to erase the information, so problems of accidental damage of the information are diminished. Regular household magnets are not usually powerful enough to erase the information encoded in the magnetic stripe.

Low Coercivity Magnetic Stripe

Although the coercivity is a factor in erasing the encoded data, it is by no means the only factor. To erase the information encoded on a low coercivity band takes a greater magnetic force than the coercive value to do it. So using low coercivity magstripe is definitely an option.
