Plastic Cards - Color Support
Color is the visual ability to interpret information from a visible light spectrum to the human eye. All digital files used in our facility must follow the color and resolution guidelines required for our printing quality standards.
RGB
The RGB model is the combination process where the Additive Primary Colors Red, Blue, and Green produce secondary colors Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. The combination of all the primary colors in equal intensity produces the color white. When they are combined at different values, they produce a wide variety of different colors. The main purpose for RGB color model is the displaying of images in electronic systems, such as television and computer screens. We DO NOT print files saved in RGB mode. CMYK is often referred to as four color process in the printing industry.
CMYK
The CMYK model is a reflected color range created by the bouncing of the light off printed materials. The colors are produced by the substraction of the primary colors Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. The colors we do not see are absorbed by the inks and subtracted from the visible spectrum. The combination of these primary colors at different percentages produce millions of colors in the visible spectrum.
Why the "K" in CMYK?
When the subtractive colors CMYK are combined, black is produced. Due to ink limitations the color mixed produces a muddy brown color instead of black. Black ink is added to ensure that true black is printed. We advise our print ready customers to save their digital artwork on CMYK color mode for best printing results. If we receive files in RGB mode, we will automatically convert them for you.
Color Picker for 100% CMYK
Try to stay away from using 100% Cyan, 100% Magenta or 100% Yellow on your designs, they will not show on press. The graph below will show you an alternative color combination for 100% CMYK colors.

Non-Digital Color Reviews
If you provide us with a non-digital color sample or a hard copy of your last printed material, we will compare it to the digital image and try to match the color as close as possible. We do not guarantee that the colors are going to be the same. To prevent unwanted results in the color matching process, we suggest our customers to order a hard copy proof.
Spot Colors
In offset printing, a spot color is any color generated by an ink that is printed using a single run. We are a 4-color press and DO NOT print spot colors but will try to match your spot color as close as we can.
Metallic Colors
We DO NOT print with metallic inks but our graphic designers will help you achieve similar results with different design techniques. If you have any other questions on how to achieve your color printing request, please contact us at 866.539.7231 or e-mail us at graphics@pcfmail.com
